SFFEB’s instructors must have retirement knowledge and are not a certificate or license financial adviser nor can they sell any financial products. This avoids the ethical issues that have come to light with other retirement seminars. SFFEB works with the Securities and Exchange Commission to make sure we structure our classes with the highest of integrity. Attached is our current offering later this month.
Private firms do offer agencies retirement seminars, often for free, and they will ask you to sponsor them so they can get space free in a federal building. SFFEB does not support or endorse these companies. If you invite one into your agency, you assume all liability for the financial advice given. In addition to the instructor, often companies recruit area financial advisors, charging them to attend to meet potential clients. The federal staff is extremely attractive to financial advisors because of our typically large TSP savings. Many will encourage you to divest from TSP. For most Federal retirees divesting from the lowest fee retirement system is not sound advice.
